In the last year, I decided to use phylogenetic bracketing to find out which of my titanosaur life reconstructions to add spike armor to. But now, with the new phylogenetic tree that came out with the Notocolossus description paper, things changed a bit...

Spatiotemporal calibration of the titanosaur osteoderm fossil record:
Red: bulb and root
Blue: scutes and ossicles
Green: Controversial elements
Grey: too fragmentary to interpret

Phylogenetic tree with extent of above armor types:

Dreadnoughtus and Puertasaurus are getting spikes now.

Do you think basal-ish titanosaurs like Andesaurus or Agustinia had bulb-and-root type osteoderms?
